The Old Road Winery
Slap bang in Franschhoek's old main road, The Old Road Winery is positively oozing with all the charm rumoured of this mini wine country: majestic vineyards, gourmet cuisine made from fresh valley ingredients, rolling heritage vines, and an ancient cellar heady with the scent of fine-wined barrels and unhurried leisure.
Please make sure you sip sundowners on the deck that overlooks Franschhoek Mountains after you've enjoyed a tasting. If you're not a fan of too-fancy fine dining, The Fat Man restaurant at Old Road has your name on it. Their specialty is artisanal sour dough pizza, but they've also got goodies like beef koftas and roasted cauliflower.

Nestled on the upper slopes of the Simonsberg mountain, their vineyard and olive grove overlook two of the Mother City's most stirring sights, False Bay and Table Mountain. Apparently, because of the unique location, the climate, geography and soils combine to produce perfect grapes – and award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc wines, no less!
We suggest enjoying a tasting, taking a stroll through the sculpture garden, booking lunch Tokara Restaurant, and seeing if the word on the street is true: The Tokara Delicatessen makes the finest coffee in the Banghoek Valley. Simply put: it's multi-stream sensorial delight at its height.
