Ballantine's was founded in 1827 by George Ballantine, who began as a grocer in Edinburgh before turning his attention to blending fine Scotch whisky. Today, Ballantine's is one of the world's best-selling Scotch whiskies, with a recipe built around malt and grain whiskies from the four corners of Scotland — Highlands, Lowlands, Speyside and Islay.
The 7 Year Old expression is a step up from the everyday Ballantine's Finest — an age-stated blend that has spent at least seven years in oak before bottling, with deeper layers of malt character and a smoother, more rounded palate as a result.
Tasting Note:
Nose: Honey, soft citrus, vanilla, baked apple and a touch of toasted oak.
Palate: Smooth and lightly creamy, with honey, raisin, baked fruit, gentle malt sweetness and a soft layer of oak spice.
Finish: Long and warming, with vanilla, honey and a clean oak finish.
Serving Suggestion: Pour 50ml neat or over a single block of ice in a tumbler. Equally good as the base for a long, refreshing Highball with chilled premium soda and a wide twist of orange peel.
