Description
Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 750ml.
A premium-tier Franschhoek Chardonnay from a historic estate.
Boschendal is one of South Africa's most recognised wine brands, with origins on the historic Boschendal estate in Franschhoek dating back to 1685 — the year that gives this premium-tier Chardonnay its name. The 1685 range is the brand's flagship-leaning tier, sitting above the everyday Boschendal range and built around longer cellar work.
The 1685 Chardonnay is barrel-fermented and lees-aged, drawing on selected Franschhoek fruit. The oak treatment is dialled in to support — not overwhelm — the variety's natural stone-fruit and citrus character, making for a polished, food-friendly Chardonnay with proper estate pedigree.
Tasting Note: Pale straw-gold in the glass. The nose layers white peach, lemon-curd citrus, soft toasted hazelnut, vanilla cream and a whisper of cream and oak spice. The palate is medium-to-full bodied, with creamy stone-fruit, toasted-oak spice, balanced acidity and a long, lightly buttery finish.
ABV: typically 13.5–14%.
Region: Franschhoek, South Africa.
Food Pairing: A serious food Chardonnay — roast chicken, grilled line-fish, creamy pasta, mushroom risotto, prawns in butter, or a mature hard cheese.
Serving Suggestion: Serve cool but not ice-cold (10–12°C) in a generous white-wine glass to let the oak-and-fruit aromatics open up.
Whether you're a Chardonnay enthusiast, building a Cape cellar, or hunting a special-occasion white with proper history, Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 750ml delivers premium-tier Franschhoek character.
