Meerlust is one of South Africa's most celebrated wine estates, set on the cool, sea-influenced slopes between Stellenbosch and False Bay. Meerlust Merlot is the estate's celebrated single-varietal expression of Merlot — a polished, generous, age-worthy red that captures the cool-climate character of Meerlust's terroir. Hand-harvested fruit is fermented in small open tanks and matured in French oak barriques for around 18 months, allowing the wine to gain layered complexity, soft tannin integration and a subtle oak frame around the fruit.

Tasting Note:
Nose: Ripe black cherry, plum, mulberry and dark chocolate, with hints of cigar box, mint, leather and toasted oak.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit, soft elegant tannins, gentle vanilla and a savoury, herbal undercurrent.
Finish: Long, smooth and refined, with cocoa, dried herbs and a gentle oak fade.

Serving Suggestion: Serve at around 17–18 °C in a large-bowled Bordeaux glass. Decant for forty-five minutes to an hour if you have time — Meerlust Merlot opens beautifully with air and reveals more layers as it warms slightly in the glass. Cellars happily for several years from release.
